Afreena is a freelance artist and project manager from Manchester. She sits on the board of Contact, and on the management committee of the Manchester Bangladeshi Women’s Organisation.
She came across Coney (or rather, Coney came across her!) in Manchester in 2011, when she was donated to Dan Canham and Tassos Stevens as an assistant director on the piece they made with Contact Young Actor’s Company, The Adventure Principle. Since then, she’s been adopted as Coney’s northern powerhouse, most recently working on NEIGHBOURHOOD.
As fate would have it, participating in Coney’s Playful Documentary Unit in 2013 inspired the idea for a performance and – 3 years later – Daughters of the Curry Revolution was created. The show is about to embark on a national tour, having been to Edinburgh as part of Forest Fringe, and Rio de Janeiro courtesy of People’s Palace Projects.
Hanging out in Tassos’ kitchen with his awesome flatmate Jen inspired her to learn BSL also.
