Intro to Playful Activism workshop
Saturday 10 June
Workshops 10am – 1pm, and 2 – 5pm
Toynbee Studios (near Aldgate East station)
Presented by Coney and Erasmus+
Coney’s participatory work is rooted in a practice we call Playful Activism – a specific type of creative activism. It is activism that uses play as a tool to explore social change. If Activism is the use of direct and noticeable action to achieve a political or social result, Playful Activism infuses this action with play and creativity. It aims to spark change through play.
In this workshop, we’ll be sharing some of our tools with practitioners of any discipline who work with young people and are interested in learning ways of engaging participants with play. We’ll introduce how we use game mechanics in our practice and how we sculpt work with young people rooted in their passions. The workshop will be led by Coney Associate Director Toby Peach and Coney Associate Janisè Sadik.
This is a FREE workshop and we have a limited number of places. If you have any questions about the workshop, please contact [email protected] or [email protected]. We’re especially interested in meeting artists with a connection to Tower Hamlets.
Please apply by Monday 5th June. We’ll confirm spaces by Tuesday 6th June.

What we do
Everything we do is inspired by the belief that the world can be a magical place where ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

We also facilitate connections and exchange of practice with a wider network of creatives: anyone can join.
