A family adventure in Chatham

Discover Chatham’s hidden stories in this interactive smartphone adventure for families, created in partnership with Docking Station Medway.

 

The mission

On 25th October 2024, a mysterious organisation known only as ‘Octopus’ will descend upon Chatham Library, unlocking a world of intrigue and adventure for families. Join the fun at the Electric Medway Festival as you embark on a digital trail filled with curious stories, hidden clues, and wild discoveries.

Grab your smartphone and prepare to solve puzzles, uncover hidden tales, and track down The Chatham Book Monster—a creature shrouded in mystery. Along the way, you’ll dive into Chatham’s surprising past, discovering everything from tigers and unicorns to painted elephants!

This free, family-friendly adventure was co-created with a group of talented young people from Medway, who helped bring the game’s imaginative twists to life. Read more about the game-making process here.

    The Chatham Book Monster digital experience uses a mobile website that includes caption for all audio sections.

    Step-free access
    The smartphone adventure is step-free, and takes place in and around the grounds of Chatham Library. There is some grassy terrain.

    The experience lasts around 40 minutes.

The Chatham Book Monster has been created in collaboration with The University of Kent’s Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries. The project aims to build connections to local history through digital play, in anticipation of the opening of Kent’s new creative technologies hub, Docking Station.
