A teenage nightmare on an epic scale
A BAFTA-winning digital adventure commissioned by Channel 4 Education.
2012
About the project
Imagine the worst day possible at secondary school – so bad, you accidentally blow up reality and turn your school into Nightmare High, a twisted world filled with zombie prefects, carnivorous canteens, and a mysterious roving mongoose. Can you put things right before it’s too late?
Nightmare High was a BAFTA-winning digital adventure commissioned by Channel 4 Education, designed for young teenagers to explore themes of resilience and big life transitions – especially the leap from primary to secondary school. Coney led research with students, teachers and parents across the UK, gathering real stories and insights that shaped the game’s design and characters. We also collaborated directly with students to co-create the story world and its cast of archetypes – the heroes, villains, and weirdos of every playground.
Created in partnership with Somethin’ Else and Player Three, Nightmare High won the 2012 BAFTA for Best Interactive Programme at the Children’s BAFTAs.
