Update for COVID-19: Unfortunately, We Are Shadows: Brick Lane is not available to play during lockdown. We hope you’ll come along and play another time!
Be our guest in the land of shadows
There are ghosts in these walls if you listen hard enough
And if you’re here after dark
You might even catch a glimpse….
We Are Shadows: Brick Lane is an immersive smartphone adventure on foot by Coney & Tamasha, inspired by where we live: E1 in Tower Hamlets. The game is designed by Coney and written by Tamasha’s Artistic Director Fin Kennedy (How To Disappear Completely And Never Be Found) and playwright Rabiah Hussain (Spun). Developed in collaboration with local Bengali women and students from Mulberry Schools Trust, this is a project co-created by those who know the area best.
The adventure begins with a phone call on your own mobile, and lasts around an hour before ending at Rich Mix. It launched on 19 October when players could also interact with installations and listen to mini podcasts produced by students from the Mulberry Schools Trust, to learn more from the people of this place, as well as how we co-created the game.
If you didn’t make it over to Brick Lane for the launch on 19 October, you’ll be happy to hear the adventure is still ready and waiting to play! It’s free to play whenever you like, and there’s no need to book – all you have to do is download the instructions below, then text “We Are Shadows” to 07481 340 803 to begin.
The adventure is best explored when starting at Rich Mix, and takes place outdoors – so be sure to check the weather before you start. The game is designed for playing in pairs, but it can be played individually too if you prefer.
We Are Shadows is open and available to everyone. If you have access requirements please get in touch with email@example.com to discuss alternative models of the game.
